Seasonal Allergy – Symptoms, Causes, and Treament


There are many various types of Allergies. Understanding allergies is important in being able to defeat or control them. Also what to do for Seasonal Allergy is partly a problem for all of us.

Whenever possible, decide on any kind of flooring besides carpeting in your house. Carpeting is part of the problem and must be kept entirely clean, and the fibers hold onto dust mites, dander, pollen, and other substances that are rather annoying to allergy victims. Floors that are simple to sweep are the best.

What is Seasonal Allergy?

Seasonal allergy normally refers to the nasal allergy symptoms that are caused by exposure to atmospheric allergens like pollen or airborne mold spores. Symptoms of seasonal allergy usually occur in some part of the year. They are also known as outdoor allergies, hay fever, and rhinitis.

Types of Seasonal Allergy

The different kinds of seasonal allergies, along with their symptoms and causes are briefly described below:

Autumn Allergy

Some common allergy symptoms during the Fall are watery eyes, excessive sneezing on exposure to air, Coughing, Itchy eyes and nose, Dark circles around the eyes, Runny nose.

Agents such as dust mites, mold, and ragweed commonly cause these allergies. “Ambrosia” is the genus name for ragweed, worldwide, it includes more than 40 species.

Allergies occurring during the autumn are normally recognized or identified by a skin test prescribed by a medical practitioner in which a small amount of any allergen is pricked into the skin and then observed for any changes.                    

Spring Allergy

Some common allergy symptoms during the Fall are – Runny nose, watery eyes, Coughing, Sneezing, Itchy nose and eyes, Dark circles. Airborne allergens may cause asthma, making respiration difficult with shortness of breath, due to which the airways narrow, wheezing, and coughing.

Spring allergy is normally identified through a skin test or a blood test, called RAST (radio allegro Sorbent test). 

Trees are the most common triggers of springtime seasonal allergy. “Birch” is one of the most common culprits, many people have an allergy to its pollen.

Summer Allergy

Some common allergy symptoms during the summer are –Sneezing, Nausea, Coughing, Runny nose, watery eyes, Itchy eyes and nose Dark circles, Itching, and localized swelling. Severe allergic reaction leading to the swelling of the throat or tongue that requires instant medical help. Summertime allergy is diagnosed with the help of blood tests and skin tests.

The main triggers of summertime seasonal allergy are grasses, such as timothy grass, ryegrass, as well as, weeds. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, grasses are the most common triggers of summertime seasonal allergy.

Winter Allergy

Some common allergy symptoms during the winter are – Coughing, Dark circles, Itchy eyes, and nose, Runny nose, Sneezing, Watery eyes. It is easy to misdiagnose a wintertime allergy with a cold or flu, but colds do not last for more than 2 days while allergies can last for months. Also, colds are accompanied by fevers and aches.

 Dust mites, molds, and even animals can cause winter allergies. Due to a protein found in the dander, urine, or saliva.

Seasonal Allergy

How to treat and prevent Seasonal Allergy?

It is impossible to prevent allergen. These little havoc-causers love to hold on to pillows, carpeting fibers, bed mattresses, clothes, and other materials. They are so small and we cannot see them without a microscope, but they exist and contribute to allergies for some individuals.

Certain medications like prescription nasal sprays, antihistamine eye drops, decongestants, and allergy shots, can be helpful with these symptoms. A doctor’s opinion is highly recommended. Seasonal Allergy symptoms can be avoided by following these steps given below:

  • At least 1,000 milligrams of extra vitamin C by eating more kiwi, broccoli, bell peppers, and grapefruit, must be taken. Increase the fatty acids in your diet by taking fish oil and flaxseed.
  • Wash clothes instantly after coming indoors from outside, as pollen and mold spores tend to cling to clothes.
  • Keep Windows and doors closed during allergy seasons.
  • Vacuum all drapes, curtains, and carpets regularly.
  • If you wish to get rid of these little buggers, make certain that you regularly clean your bed linen, carpeting and clothing.
  • Wash all bedding at least once a week in hot water, which will kill dust mites.
  • Regularly use air purifiers.
  • Some seasonal allergies may even be life-threatening, and so any seasonal allergy symptoms should be carefully monitored and curbed.
